Lack of Cents in the Disneyland Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction

This news item originally appeared on Episode 21 of the Disney news SATIRE podcast, “Guest Room” on the Ears News Network with Parker Byrd and Erin Dole.

Tony S., a cast member at the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Attraction over at Disney’s California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California wrote to tell us about an encounter he recently had.  Tony was working the exit of the ride when a group of four young boys, just barely tall enough to ride it by his estimation, came hurrying out excitedly chattering.  Curious, Tony stepped closer to see what he could make out of the chatter. One of the boys said “Hey…I had a 5 cent piece in my hand and it floated up when we were dropping.”

Now, our lawyers would like us to point out that having loose objects in this attraction is ill advised, dangerous, and against Disney policy.  You could even get expelled from the park if caught violating this rule. So JUST DON’T DO IT!

Anyway, Tony writes that a second boy responded “I pulled out my 10 cent piece and it floated too!”.  A third boy also chimed in “I pulled out my 25 cent piece and it floated too”.

While dealing with little kids isn’t exactly Tony’s strong suit, he noticed that the fourth boy’s downtrodden look was in stark contrast to the other three. Tony approached the boy and asked him “Did you float a coin as well?”

“No sir!” said the boy.

Marveling in the fact that perhaps one young guest had actually obeyed the rules, and hoping it served as a message to the other three, Tony confidently asked the boy “Why not?”

The boy’s answer? “‘Cause I didn’t have any cents.”

PARKER:

Groot gives Ellen the boot, Disney planning to string along guests, an Uber great idea from Disney gives guests a mini lift, and a lack of cents in the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.

Hello and welcome to the the July 30th edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network. Bringing you Disney News you won’t believe….and probably shouldn’t…I’m Parker Byrd.

ERIN: And I’m Erin Dole.

One the many announcements coming out of D23 was cool news that a Guardians of the Galaxy themed ride is coming to EPCOT in the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida. It’s going to replace Ellen’s Energy Adventure which is closing in August. Ellen’s Energy Adventure starred Ellen Degeneres and Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Not a ton of detail on the ride but it is supposed to be based on the premise that Peter Quill, you know Star-Lord, actually visited EPCOT as a kid.

Concept art also showed Rocket and Groot in the preshow.

Though ENN has learned that in a nod to Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Rocket’s friend will be referred to as Baby Groot the Living Root.

PARKER:

Also at the D23 convention a few weeks back Disney announced a new transportation system coming to the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando. The new system, called the Disney Skyliner, is a gondola system, similar to a ski lift with an enclosed car, attached to a cable.

Now the concept is not new for this resort. The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World used to have the “Skyway” ride which was an opening day attraction. It connected Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. It was a great way to skip over the crowds in between. It closed in 1999.

This new version won’t be in a park exactly. Rather it will connect the Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach,Pop Century and new Disney Riviera resorts with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.

Of course some may be concerned about the safety of the Disney Skyliner? For instance if a thunderstorm suddenly blows in, will they be able to get everyone off the ride in time? And with numerous gondolas filled with guests on a line that stretches on for miles,, if it were to break down or the power goes out for a while, you are talking a massive evacuation spread over miles and miles of the resort.

Well ENN has learned that Disney has come up with a potential plan to deal with the evacuations. They are considering equipping each of the gondolas with an inflatable slide, similar to the ones used on commercial airplanes. Should a stoppage occur, guests will be instructed to pull a handle, deploy the slide and self-evacuate to the ground.

Now I see two potential unintended consequences with this. First, the allure of a thrilling slide to the ground could lead to guests wishing for. Or even causing ridestops. But more importantly , depending on where your gondola stops along the route, it could be less of an evacuation and more like air delivery of gator food.

Back after this.

ERIN: Welcome back to “Guest Room” on ENN.

Yet another announcement coming out of D23 was the announcement of Disney’s new Minnie Van service coming to the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando.. Of course that is Minnie spelled M-i-n-n-i-e!

This ride-sharing like service seeks to mimic the services many have come to expect from service providers like Lyft and Uber. Guests will use an app to schedule a pick up that will take them to various places around the resort. The specially decorated vehicles will be driven by Disney employees . The service is expected to be in full operation later this month.

The promotional pictures showed Disney’s fleet of Minnie vans all bearing Minnie’s signature red with white spots scheme. Now that I think of it, it kind of takes Disneybounding to a whole new level.

PARKER:

And finally Tony S.., a cast member at the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Attraction over at Disney’s California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California wrote to tell us about an encounter he recently had. No Wishes Left, but you still can live Happily Ever After, Heroic things happening at California Adventure, Marvelous things happening on the open sea, and lessons learned by one young world traveller.

Hello and welcome to the May 15th edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network, bringing you Disney news you won’t believe…..and probably shouldn’t. I’m your host, Erin Dole, Enn’s Disney cruise line expert

PARKER: And I’m Parker Byrd. But Erin there is no need for specific titles at ENN

ERIN: I just want to feel more important to ENN.

PARKER: Erin, you ARE important to ENN.

ERIN: Aw, thanks but I am still using that title.

PARKER: OK then….Last Thursday, May 11th marked a bittersweet occasion for Disney park fans. It was the final performance of Wishes, the nighttime fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Wishes ran some 13+ years, debuting on October 9th, 2003, which means it was seen…about…

ERIN: Wait Parker….I got this. Let’s see May 11th, 2017 minus October 9, 2003, subtract a bunch for rainouts and park hurricane closures, add a half dozen or so for some double show nights they ran around Christmas in 2007….carry the January….and we come up with approximately 4,873…. give or take a dozen…or two.

PARKER: Jiminy Cricket! That’s a lot!

ERIN: Really Parker?

PARKER: While the ending of Wishes was a sad day for many, it made way for a brand new fireworks show.

“Happily Ever After” made its debut last Friday, May 12th to the excitement of many. This new show combining fireworks and unbelievable projection mapping on Cinderella’s Castle and surrounding spires stunned the crowd.

Let me tell you, to be there in person and experience the excitement, energy, color, technology, fireworks and captivating soundtrack…well it is an indescribable experience!

ERIN: Wait! Parker! You were there????

PARKER: On what we get paid? No way. I watched it on YouTube. Which is why it is….

TOGETHER: …an indescribable experience.

ERIN: I see what you did there Parker

PARKER: You’re learning rookie. Disney Parks live streamed the opening night to eager fans who could not be there. But in case you didn’t see it I will keep the rest of the story spoiler-free.

ERIN: Good idea.

PARKER: As I said, the show makes tremendous use of the projection mapping technology. Some amazing digital effects and animation bring the castle to life! The show celebrates music and characters from some of the greatest Disney movies of all time.

ERIN: Which ones?

PARKER: Can’t tell you…spoiler-free..remember?

ERIN: Right.

PARKER: I can say though that while there are still some great fireworks

ERIN: Ooh…any new ones?

PARKER: Can’t say…

TOGETHER: Spoiler-free…

ERIN: Oh….but you CAN confirm there were fireworks in it?

PARKER: Yes Erin, I CAN confirm that there were fireworks in the FIREWORKS show. But, as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, the projection mapping, in my humble opinion, was clearly the focus of the show.

ERIN: Well that’s new?

PARKER: Projection mapping? Not really…it’s been used in several other Disney fireworks shows over the last several years.

ERIN: I know that! What I meant was new was you having a HUMBLE opinion. (Long pause)….you can continue…….Parker?….

PARKER: I’m ignoring you…..I will say that half way through the show I became quite concerned that I had yet to see Tinker Bell make her appearance and wondered if they had removed that very historical mainstay. (Long pause)

ERIN: Well?

PARKER: Well what?

ERIN: Did Tinker Bell ever appear?????

PARKER: Can’t tell you…its.

ERIN: Spoiler free…I KNOW! I give up! MOVING ON!
ERIN: Over at Disney’s California Adventure Park in the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim California, things are getting quite…heroic as the park prepares for its “Summer of Heroes” celebration.

PARKER: Oooh…sounds delicious?

ERIN: Huh?

PARKER: Only where I come from they are called hoagies.

ERIN: Seriously Parker….they are talking about superheroes…you know…like from the Marvel universe.

PARKER: Oh right…of course. I knew that.

ERIN: Sure you did. Anyway, several awesome experiences will be going on during that time including

  • “Super Hero Encounters” which will allow guests to come face to face with heroes like Star Lord, First Avenger, Captain America, Spider Man, Black Widow and even Groot.
  • “Avengers Training Initiative” which will allow young recruits to see if they have what it takes to be Avengers
  • “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!” Where Star Lord will “fire up his old-school boom box to get the party started” It promises to be a “rock ‘n’ roll bash”
  • And the pièce de résistance, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!” In it guests help Rocket get his pals out of the Collector’s Fortress. The attraction comes complete with randomized ride sequences.

Now, the randomized sequences will include music from the late sixties through really early 80’s. The songs include:

  • “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar
  • “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament
  • “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf
  • “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5
  • “Free Ride” by The Edgar Winter Group
  • And “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley

Now Disney claims their imagineers started with a list of over 100 songs and whittled them down to these six.

As an exclusive, ENN has learned the names some of the songs that just missed the cut. Great songs like:

  • Don’t Worry Be Happy
  • Feelings
  • Walking on Sunshine
  • Playground in my Mind

PARKER: Hey! I like that one.

ERIN: You would.

  • Pretty Woman
  • Karma Chameleon
  • And of course, the most insipid ear worm of all time….mmmBop.

Oh….and given the attraction’s past as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Disney Imagineers thought it would also be a good idea to remove from the list the song….The Final Countdown. What do you think of that one Parker?

PARKER: Mmmbop, ba duba dop ba du bop

ERIN: PARKER!

PARKER: Sorry…as you said….insipid….back after this!

ERIN: Welcome back to ENN, the Ears News Network.

The Disney Cruise Line currently has a Star Wars Day at sea which is only on select cruises each year. Last year the Disney Cruise Line announced a new Marvel Day at Sea. This was to only happen on the seven cruises on the Disney Magic which are leaving from New York City in the fall of 2017. But recently DCL announced that it will also happen on an additional 8 cruises on the Disney Magic that depart from Miami in early 2018.

This event will also be accompanied by special viewings of certain Marvel movies and special Character meet and greets.

ENN has also learned that there will be themed decoration overlays to the ship’s restaurants.

We contacted the same designer that gave us the information on the forthcoming Granny’s “Once Upon a Line Diner” to get insight on some amazing designs being added to the restaurants for this special night. While the decor will change significantly, to avoid confusing guests Disney has opted to keep the restaurant names the same.

Animator’s Palate will be themed after Captain America. The much beloved changing walls will start the evening reflecting Captain America’s time during World War II before shifting into a significantly long icy period, and ultimately show scenes of his time with the Avengers and Iron Man.

Hulk will appear at Lumiere’s, the normally Beauty and Beast themed restaurant. That’s not right.

Thor will make his appearance in Cariocas where the South American themed restaurant will take on the look of the American Southwest.

And not surprisingly,  Palo, the adult-exclusive restaurant, will feature Deadpool.

While I am glad that they are giving Marvel its proper due, I think these restaurant themes are tenuous at best. Besides, this seems like a big renovation for only 15 select cruises, don’t you think so Parker?

PARKER: Well it does seem STRANGE that they would take on such COLOSSAL and DAREDEVIL changes as by going ROGUE they might create a STORM of FURY against them. But I guess they wanted to create that MARVELous X factor.

ERIN: Seriously Parker? It’s like you Googled a bunch of Marvel names and strung them together for that joke! You’re not going to fool me with your… Comic con.

PARKER: (long pause)….Nicely played rookie!

PARKER: And finally, Duffy B. a cast member who works in World Showcase in EPCOT at the World Disney World Resort in Orlando emailed “Guest Room” to tell us this cute story. He was working the KidCot Fun Stop in the Mexican pavilion one day and was helping an 8 year old guest who was coloring. Duffy asked her how many of the stops she had visited.

The girl held out her fingers and started counting. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…..eight, nine….and ten. Ten!

“Wow!”,  Duffy said, “That means you did them all! A complete trip around the world. Did you learn anything?”.

“Uh huh” replied the girl, whose eyes were slowly closing as she stifled a yawn.

“What’s the biggest fact you learned today?” , he asked.

The girls eyes flew open, her face got serious. She grabbed his arm and leaned in to whisper. “It’s not a SMALL world after all!”

ERIN: You just had to get one more ear worm in didn’t you?!?
PARKER: And that’s all for this edition of ENN’s “Guest Room”. If you would like to comment on this episode or would like to send along a news story for us to look into drop us an email at guestroom@earsnews.net.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” Attraction Gets the Hook?

PARKER: And finally, in related news, LJ Silver, a cast member at that same “Pirates” attraction at the Magic Kingdom in the Disneyland Resort, told us about an interesting encounter he recently had with a guest. One particular day he noticed a young girl who came through the queue numerous times. Now a lot of people like to reride this attraction, but LJ noticed that each time she seemed to be more and more frustrated. Finally LJ’s curiosity got the better of him. As she approached he said to the girl “Aye there Lass, why you been looking so salty?”

The girl gave him a stern look and said “I have ridden this ride many times and I still can’t find the Captain”.

LJ smiled and said “Aye, he is a tricky one to find. But if you keeps your eyes sharp when they are dunking the mayor in the well, you just might spy that sly Capt. Jack Sparrow”

“Not him!” snapped the girl, “Capt. Sparrow is really bad at hiding. I’m trying to find Hook.”

LJ was confused at first, but finally replied “Oh Lassie, you won’t be finding Capt’s Hook in these seas, he only hangs out with Peter Pan in Fantasyland.”

“Not true!” yelled the girl, “Hook has to be here!”

“And why is that lassie?” asked LJ

“Duh!”, she explained, “Because this is Pirate of the Carabiner right?”

ERIN: Parker, I’m beginning to think we should have stayed on hiatus.

An amazing, beloved and humble Disney podcast returns, Magic Kingdom guests are now getting bagged even earlier, good and bad food on one Disney Cruise ship, and an a”Depped” Jack Sparrow in the Pirates attraction which some fans get hooked on.

Hello and welcome to the May 1st edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network, bringing you Disney news you won’t believe…..and probably shouldn’t. I’m your host, Parker Byrd.

ERIN: And I’m Erin Dole…

PARKER: Now before we get started, Erin we should recognize that this is the first episode we have done since January 15th of 2016.

ERIN: That’s correct Parker.

PARKER: And we think we owe to you, our listeners, an explaination of why that is.

ERIN: This should be good….

PARKER: We here at the Ears News Network take our job very seriously. We recognize that in this busy world, you have a limited time to consume Disney information. So we have committed ourselves to deliver high quality truth-breaking news when it happens.

ERIN: Are you going somewhere with this Parker?

PARKER: Yes I am Erin’. I am trying to explain to our listeners that we haven’t put out an episode in over 15 months because well, lets face it. Nothing has really happened in the Disney community since then…

ERIN: Wait! Parker are you kidding?
What about “Finding Dory”?
The opening of Shanghai Disneyland?
The “Frozen Ever After” ride in EPCOT?
Hello! Um “Rogue One”?
Like a Bazillion Marvel Movies.
Moana.
The “Soarin’” and “Midway Mania” expansions
The closing of Streets of America, Honey I Shrunk the Audience Playground and Lights Motor Action stuntshow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Removal of Sum of All Thrills and StormStruck at EPCOT.
Not to mention all the stuff coming out about Pandora and the Rivers of Light at Animal Kingdom
All the changes to the Food and Wine and Flower and Garden Festivals.
What do you mean nothing has really happened?!?!

PARKER: Erin…..Erin…..!

ERIN: Yes Parker?!?

PARKER: Welcome back…..(aside) rookie.
Last month new security changes were put into place at the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Previously, guests went through metal detectors and bag checks directly in front of the entrance to the Magic Kingdom. Those have now been relocated. Guests who drive to the Magic Kingdom will be screened at the the Ticket and Transportation Center prior to boarding the ferry or Monorail. Guest staying at resorts on the Monorail Resort Loop will be screened at their respective monorail stations before boarding. Guest arriving on resort boats will be screened as they exit the docks. A new screening area has been added between the resort bus unloading area and the front of the park for guests arriving that way, and even one added to the top of Cinderella’s castle for arriving pixies. What do you “Tink” of that one Erin?

ERIN: Really Parker? Anyway, why do you think they made the changes.

PARKER: Well Erin, first and foremost it keeps the entrance of the park from getting so overcrowded.

ERIN: Makes sense.

PARKER: Second, let’s face it. Bag check can be stressful and it’s really annoying to be putting everything back in your bag and zipping up all the pockets while you are entering “The Most Magical Place on Earth”.

ERIN: I can definitely see that.

PARKER: And third, and most importantly, it frees up the area in front of the entrance to put in something really cool.

ERIN: Really? What?

PARKER: Personally I am hoping it’s the location of yet another Florida Wawa. Because nothing says Main Street like some good coffee and a Philly soft pretzel!

ERIN: Or maybe they could put in another Starbucks! Then the one on other end of Main Street could be used for a second cup.

PARKER: Really Erin? You do remember what happened on Episode 2?

ERIN: Good point.

Disney Cruise Line currently consists of four amazing ships, the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic which are sister ships, and the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream which are also sister ships.

Disney recently announced two new sister ships were going to be built. We hear that both are going to be big…and I mean big!! Recently ENN got special access to one of the designers of these amazing ships. This designer told us that there is going to be a special surprise for all of the Once Upon A Time fans out there.

PARKER: I love Once Upon A Time! I am so excited! It’s like my “Maine” show!

ERIN: Parker please! Just stop!

Anyway, the designer told us that they are going to feature Granny’s Diner from Once Upon A Time as one of the three restaurants that you rotate through for dinner on the ship. They are calling this restaurant Granny’s Once Upon A Line Diner. That sounds like something you would come up with Parker.

PARKER: Why do you say that?

ERIN: Because it is a bad joke about the diner being on the cruise line. Anyway some of the light entrees will include:

  • Emma’s Savior-y Chicken
  • Charming Shepherd’s Pie
  • Regina’s Split-Me Soup
  • and Wicked Western Spicy Green Pepper Salad

Darker entrees include:

  • Rumpel Roast
  • Queen’s Artichoke Hearts
  • and Hades’ Flaming Bar-b-que

Best of all, you will be able to finish your meals with either a slice of Snow White Chocolate Cake or a scoop of Really Icy Rocky Road.

This restaurant was originally supposed to be included in the Disney Wonder’s renovation but due to numerous difficulties in the design of the restaurant they opted to go with Tiana’s Place instead.

PARKER: So you could say that for the Disney Wonder the Once Upon a Line restaurant was cursed from the start.

ERIN: True. But clearly Emma stepped in.

PARKER: We would like to welcome a new sponsor to Ears News Network….Main Street Travel. (ad copy)

Back after this.

FAUXMERICAL:

It may be a classic but it’s the attraction that set the standard for all others. With its near constant high-speed turns, variable elevation changes, 15 feet in two seconds flat,. And the best part is it’s a duel, side-by-side!

But no matter which one you get, it’s 100% pure thrill.! You could  lose your hat, you could lose your nerve, you could even lose your lunch! But whatever you do don’t lose your magic feather!

Dumbo the Flying Elephant! Now flying in a park near you. Dueling option only available at the Walt Disney World resort.

ERIN:
Welcome back to ENN, the Ears News Network.

E! News has reported that on Wednesday evening, April 26, riders of Pirates of the Caribbean ride in the Magic Kingdom in the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California were the first to see a newly upgraded Captain Jack Sparrow being tested out. They noticed it where Sparrow makes his appearance while the mayor is being dunked.

PARKER: (In bad spanish accent) Don’t tell him Carlos! Don’t be cheekin!

ERIN: Seriously Parker! We don’t need your “poultry” comments.

PARKER: Sorry.

ERIN: Anyway,This version was so natural and lifelike that many people swore it was Johnny Depp…because it was. The popular and versatile actor had taken the place of his animatronic counterpart and was even mimicking the motions and lines that normally appear there. Fans were going crazy!

While many suspect the stunt was to help generate buzz for the upcoming release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” it turns out it was actually part of an exchange program. While Depp was
standing on golden sands and watching the ships that go sailin’. Somewhere beyond the sea the animatronic, nicknamed Johnny….. 5, was preparing to replace Depp in the filming of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2.

PARKER: Wow! Sounds like Depp may have “stiff” competition there.

And finally, in related news, LJ Silver, a cast member at that same “Pirates” attraction at the Magic Kingdom in the Disneyland Resort, told us about an interesting encounter he recently had with a guest. One particular day he noticed a young girl who came through the queue numerous times. Now a lot of people like to reride this attraction, but LJ noticed that each time she seemed to be more and more frustrated. Finally LJ’s curiosity got the better of him.

“And why is that lassie?” asked LJ

“Duh!”, she explained, “Because this is Pirate of the Carabiner right?”

ERIN: Parker, I’m beginning to think we should have stayed on hiatus.

The Prodigal Hijos return, Parking is no longer a fruitless endeavor, Orange is the new Green, Dory’s Energy Adventure, Grilling Jedi Style, and Christmas Wishes Denied.

Hello and welcome to the January 15th edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network, bringing you Disney news you won’t believe…..and probably shouldn’t. Hope you had a great holiday season and are having a awesome 2016. I’m Parker Byrd.

ERIN:
And I’m Erin Dole…

Back in November, Disney began renaming the parking lots that surround the newly renovated and renamed Disney Springs. As an homage to Florida’s Fruit industry the parking lots all bear the names of Florida grown fruits. Starting with the parking lot on the far side of Disney Springs’ West Side section, the names are, in order: strawberry, watermelon, grapefruit, mango, orange, lime and lemon.

While the names are certainly easier to remember, in at least one case, the change has created quite a headache. Prior to the change, the lot outside of the Marketplace section of Disney Springs was quite full. But following the change the lot soon became empty and abandoned. This is likely due to the fact that guests believe it is bad luck to park their cars in a Lemon Parking Lot.

PARKER:
I wonder why they don’t change the name to clementine.

(singing)
Oh my Darlin…oh my Darlin….

ERIN: Parker!

PARKER: Yes Erin?

ERIN: You just answered your own question.

PARKER: Everybody’s a critic…..

On December 4th, a set of Animatronic figures returned to Walt Disney World after being gone for 35 years! The figures, representing the Three Caballeros, Panchito Pistoles, José Carioca, and Donald Duck, originally debuted at Walt Disney World on its opening day, October 1st, 1971, as part of the Mickey Mouse Review. They left there in September of 1980 when the show was moved to the new Tokyo Disneyland for its opening day and remained there until 2009.

The traveling trio actually came back to Florida a few years ago appearing at D23’s Destination D: Walt Disney World 40th event in 2011.

But now the three caballeros animatronics are appearing in public once again as they have become part of the finale of the “Grand Fiesta Tour” attraction in the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase.

Now we asked each of the Caballeros how they felt about the return of the animatronics to Walt Disney World. Panchito, whose full name is Panchito Romero Miguel Junipero Francisco Quintero González…the third.. said that being Mexican he is overjoyed at being such an integral part of an attraction that features his home country. Brazilian Jose parroted Panchito’s excitement, though he did want to remind people that the three of them have actually been an integral part to the attraction since 2007. But he noted that the addition of their animatronics made the attraction feel complete.

Donald, however, said that he is just excited that the Frozen ride is opening soon. He thinks having Elsa for a neighbor will be…really cool.

ERIN: Parker, I do believe he DUCKED the question.

In other news, late last year Disney increased the capacity of the Orange Team ride on Mission Space in EPCOT. Mission space has two types of rides, green and orange. Both take you through the same presentation and general motions, but the Orange ride has the added intensity of cars spinning to simulate the G-forces one would encounter on a trip to Mars.
There are four ride bays in Mission Space. Prior to the change two sides were utilized for Green rides and two for Orange. But now Orange rides will take up three of the bays leaving just one for the green rides.

While this modification puts Disney in a better position to handle demand, it has unwittingly sparked a critical industry-wide shortage of air sickness bags…

PARKER:
Welcome back to ENN, the Ears News Network.

Back in November Disney Pixar released one of what is sure to be several trailers promoting the upcoming film, Finding Dory, which is set to be released on June 17th, 2016.

In the trailer, Dory seems to flirt with getting pieces of her memory back. It appears that she remembers having a family and Nemo and Marlin join her in trying to find them.

Now unconfirmed rumors say the opening could be delayed as Pixar is desperately trying to enhance their audience interaction technology. It seems the movie’s star, Ellen Degeneres insists the movie must open with Dory out among the audience……dancing.

ERIN: Dancing in the audience (amused). I have got to admit, that was a pretty good story Parker. You agree?

PARKER: Who?

ERIN: You.

PARKER: What?

ERIN: Agree that was good?

PARKER: Where?

ERIN: in the story

PARKER: When?

ERIN: Ok Parker. I get it! You are doing your lame impression of John Travolta as Vinnie Barberino in that old TV show “Welcome Back Kotter”.

PARKER: Yeah….Love that one

ERIN: Really Parker! This is NEWS show…get it…NEWS. There is absolutely NO PLACE in this show
for talking about some piece of entertainment dreamed up way back in the 70’s!

ERIN: Good news for Star Wars Fans..

PARKER: Um Erin….

ERIN: Shut it! Over in Disneyland, the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant has been been converted to the Galactic Grill during the Season of the Force events.

The Galactic Grill serves a bunch of items with Star Wars inspired names. For example during breakfast you can get items like:

  • Padawan Breakfast
  • Darth Tamale
  • Bantha Blue Milk Bread
  • Lars Family Breakfast
  • Moisture Farm Fresh Fruit Platter

For lunch and dinner, some of the entrees include:

  • First Order Specialty Burger
  • Jedi Order Chicken Sandwich
  • Cheese-3PO Burger
  • Wickets wicked Veggie Sandwich
  • Jawa Turkey Sandwich
  • Han Burger
  • AT-ST Chicken Walker Nuggets

Desserts include:

  • Darth by Chocolate
  • The Pastry Menace
  • The BB-8 Droid Crisped Rice Treat.

But ENN has discovered, that like any great restaurant these days, the Galactic Grill has a “secret menu”. These are dishes fans will just have to know the name of if they want to order them. This menu includes entrees like:

  • The Amidala Padamelt
  • Ky Lo Mein
  • Chicken Boba Fetts

It also includes some specialty drinks like:

  • The Darth Malt
  • Asoka Cola
  • A shot of Qui Gon Gin (non-alcoholic of course)

The Galactic Grill is scheduled to be there throughout the Season of the Force event. But who knows. The force might be strong in this one.

PARKER:

And finally, at the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party held on December 11th of this year, Guest Services Cast Member Holly Ann Deivy was working in the lobby of City Hall on Main Street. At 10:45 that evening, right in the middle of “Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade”, a young boy wandered in. Holly Ann noticed that he was clearly upset.

Assuming he had gotten separated from his parents, she approached him calmly and asked him “Sweet Prince, is there something I can do for you?”

He quickly pleaded with her. “Yes…please! I don’t know where else to look?”

“Don’t worry Prince. “ Holly replied reassuringly, “ We will find your King and Queen!”.

“My what?” said the boy, clearly confused.

“Your parents.” Holly explained, “I will help you find your parents”.

“No need.” replied the boy, “They are right outside, watching the parade.”

Holly, now confused herself, asked the boy “I don’t understand….what do you need help looking for.”

“The candy bar drawings!” he excitedly replied, “I can’t find them”.

“The candy bar drawings?” inquired Holly.

“Yes.” said the boy, “You know…the drawings of the candy bar.”

Holly, having often in the past had to try to decipher obscure questions from guests, thought about it for a minute. She quickly ran through an inventory in her head of all the merchandise she had seen in the stores and even through the list of special merchandise for the event. But she could not come up with anything that was even remotely similar to a drawing of a candy bar.

After a few moments she shook her head sadly at the boy and said “I’m sorry my Royal Prince, I don’t believe we have any drawings of a candy bar anywhere in the kingdom.”

The boy began to tear up. “What a horrible party this turned out to be!”

Holly’s heart ached for the boy, so she tried to turn things around. “But my dear Prince, how can you say such a thing? Look out there. Beautiful decorations, toy soldiers marching by as we speak. Great Christmas music everywhere you go! Santa right next door….and wonderful, magical snowfall on Main Street! What more could you ask for?”

The boy looked Holly straight in the eye. “Yes….I suppose those are really cool things. But ever since my parents told me two months ago that we were coming to this party there was only two things I wanted!”

“What were those?” asked Holly curiously.

Before bursting into tears the boy managed to finally choke out, “Hot chocolate…..and a Snicker’s Doodle!”

Disney Treats Selected Cast Members to Thanksgiving Feast

Phil Graham, an EPCOT cast member from Plymouth, Massachusetts, and one of the original American Adventure cast members, sent us an email about a really cool event that took place on Thanksgiving.

Phil writes that early in the evening on Thanksgiving, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald each went to one of the parks and randomly selected cast members who were invited to a special Thanksgiving feast, which took place after the parks closed. Phil was selected by Minnie who personally escorted him to the event.

According to Phil, the room was festively decorated and more than ample amounts of the traditional Thanksgiving fare could be had.

Toward the end of the meal, Mickey stood up and asked that they go around the table and say what each of them were thankful for.

Mickey lead it off by saying he was thankful for all the boys and girls of all ages who came to visit the parks.  Minnie said she was thankful for all the wonderful cast members who made that visit so magical for all the guests.  Goofy, for his part, said that he was thankful for all the family and friends that make each of our lives so special.

The rest of guests at the table in turn vocalized what they were thankful for.  Phil writes that it was an interesting study to see the wide variety of what people found gratitude in….particularly Donald.

What was Donald thankful for?  That they were all eating turkey……..and not roasted Duck!

Star Wars , Star Tours, and Star Source…code, Hondas, Hyenas, and Holiday.

Hello and welcome to the November 30th edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network, bringing you Disney news you won’t believe…..and probably shouldn’t. Happy Cyber Monday. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and a productive Black Friday. I’m Parker Byrd.

ERIN:
And I’m Erin Dole…

‘Tis the Season….of the Force that is . On November 16th, Disneyland officially opened its “Season of the Force” event. Several elements make up this new event.

The first is Star Wars Launch Bay which gives guests a chance to visit Star Wars characters, check out special exhibits and get some behind the scenes looks at the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie.

The second is Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, the newest incarnation of the former “Jedi Training Academy”. This version adds new characters including ones from the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

The third is “Hyperspace Mountain”, a Star Wars themed overlay to the popular coaster attraction “Space Mountain”.

The fourth is a new addition to Star Tours which we will discuss in more detail a just minute.

The “Season of the Force” will launch officially on December 1st at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and will contain many of the same features with an addition of a new Star Wars fireworks presentation entitled “Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular”.

Despite a myriad of rumors within the Disney Blogosphere, there will be no Star Wars overlay to the Tower Of Terror. Even though Disney Imagineers Alderan away with the idea, they Disney could not settle on a good concept. They first tried “Tower of the Force”…choked that one! And then they tried “Cloud City Air Shaft of Terror” but it too didn’t work……… so they went…. hands off.

PARKER:
As Erin mentioned a moment ago, the Star Tours attractions in both Tomorrowland at Disneyland in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World resort in Florida are currently running a new sequence “inspired” by the upcoming new Star Wars, the Force Awakens film. While Star Tours generally runs a random sequence with over 50 possibilities, for the next few months the new sequence will be the only one run, ensuring as many fans as possible can see it. However, the film, which has prided itself on secrecy won’t open until December 18th, which has led some to wonder if the new sequence contains spoilers….and if so…will those be leaked to hungry Star Wars fans world wide.

Disney spokesperson, Ann Akinsky Walker, has confirmed to ENN that the sequence does include several things which would be considered “spoilers”. However, she added that precautions are being taken to mitigate the danger of those details being leaked. Guests will be required to check their cell phones and cameras as they enter the attraction. This is to prevent them from recording…or even Periscoping the scene. But, those electronics will be returned when the guests leave the attraction….which is expected to be at 12:01am on December 18th.

Those with questions about this policy should see Quester Relations…..uh…I mean Guest Relations.

Erin?

ERIN:
Last month, Code.org, a non-profit website that offers online tutorials to teach computer programming, or “coding” to students, recently launched Star Wars themed coding tutorials.

One of the tutorials, geared to ages 6-10, allows students to create Star Wars games. They do so by dragging around blocks of actions, like “Move Up” or “Move Down”.

The tutorial geared to ages 11 on up also allows students to create Star Wars programs by dragging around blocks of code in the common programming language called Javascript.

Though given this is Star Wars…maybe they should call it “Jawa Script”!

PARKER:
“Jawa Script” really Erin?

ERIN:
Hey…I tried. Maybe I should have gone with “Jabba Script”, or “JarJar Script”…or….

PARKER:
More news, and none of it Stars Wars, right after this.

PARKER:
Welcome back to ENN, the Ears News Network. The website MousePlanet reported earlier this month that the Autopia attraction at Disneyland is getting a new sponsor. Honda, which was recently forced out of Innoventions, due to the pending takeover of that area by the forthcoming Star Wars Land, has agreed to sponsor the attraction which allows guests to drive cars through a winding course.

The partnership will bring about cosmetic changes to the attraction including new paint schemes and signage as well as a change to attraction related merchandise. Starting January 1st all Autopia themed items will be available for no money down! (Disclaimer voice) For qualified buyers based on 0.9% APR for 36 months .

ERIN:
Earlier this month, the Disney Parks Blog reported that a pair of spotted hyenas were added to the Kilimanjaro Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The pair is similar to the hyenas which were the bullies and villains in the animated movie “The Lion King”.

But as the blog post points out their villainy is just bad press. In reality hyenas are a very powerful species with a unique social structure that ranks all the females in their “clan” as a higher status than all of the males in the clan……(pause)…as it should be.

Now the new pair will only be available for brief periods of the day as they are still adjusting to the Savannah. While sightings have been limited so far neither one of them appears to have a “scar”.

But one thing is for sure, the pair of hyenas is a great addition to Kilimanjaro safari and that is no laughing matter.

PARKER:

Haunted Mansion Cast Member Confronts Immortality

Haunted Mansion ©Disney

Haunted Mansion ©Disney

Barney Steger, a Disneyland haunted mansion Butler, recently had a humorous encounter with a guest.  While ushering guests into the stretching room he instructed them all to “drag their wretched bodies to the dead center of the room”. While most of the guest complied, Barney noticed a teenage girl defiantly standing by one of the hidden doors to the room.  Barney positioned himself next to her, stared her fiercely in the eyes and In his menacing tone repeated the command. “Drag your wretched  body to the dead center of the room!”

The girl didn’t even flinch, held Barney’s gaze, and confidently replied back “Sorry, but no. I am not one of your foolish mortals! I am immortal and plan to live forever.”

Unfazed by her response, Barney simply asked her “And what if you find out you’re not immortal?”

The girl, clearly stunned by the thought and quickly flushing in extreme embarrassment stammered out “oh! I would just die!”

Innoventions Now in Color, A New Holiday Party Being Tested, New Buns,Two Cruises, and Limited Immortality.

Hello and welcome to the November 15th edition of “Guest Room” on ENN, the Ears News Network, bringing you Disney news you won’t believe…..and probably shouldn’t. I’m Parker Byrd.

ERIN:

And I’m Erin Dole.

On Episode 6 of Guest Room on the Ears News Network, we told you about a new sponsored exhibit that was coming to the Innoventions East area of the Future World section of EPCOT in the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The exhibit, known as “Colortopia” and sponsored by Glidden paints, made its official debut on November 13th. The interactive exhibit is divided into three zones.

“The Power of Color Theater” entertains guests with a short film talking about the psychology behind color.

“The Color Lab” features both an interactive game called Color Mix ‘n Match which will let guests actually invent their very own color and an interactive display called “Spinning Spectrums” designed to teach guests about persistence of vision.

The third area is called “Color Our World” which will feature a “magic paintbrush” that will allow guests to paint scenes using the colors they choose. A special Colortopia app will let them take that creation home. There is even an interactive website to go along with the exhibit as well.

Now early reactions to the exhibit have been mixed with some guests finding the whole spread delightfully entertaining with shades of old school EPCOT blended in.

Others however say it pales in comparison to previous exhibits and at its base seems a poor primer into color with a presentation that seems canned. Which just goes to show that creating a consistent branded educational experience isn’t always black and white and that it can be difficult to find success when operating in this spectrum.
PARKER:

On November 8th, the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party of 2015 was held, a mere week after the last Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party of 2015. The popular hard ticketed event surrounds guests in the magic of the holidays with sweet treats, performances of the Christmas parade, and snow on Main Street.

But despite its popularity, some fans have complained over the years that they feel a little left out as religious or cultural backgrounds prevent them from attending a “Christmas” event. Disney has apparently been listening and is testing a new party this season, one that allows guests to celebrate the one fall holiday universally accepted by all.

On November 27th, and for one day only, the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World will be closed for a special hard ticketed event: Mickey’s Very Very Wild and Crazy Black Friday Fiesta.

Festivities will include a virtual obstacle course of kiosks down Main St., ridiculously low priced deals on Disney merchandise and a parade featuring crowds of shoppers dancing and acting out the popular seasonal hit, Dan Fogelberg’s “Auld Lang Syne”.

Food will be an important part of the party as well. A temporary food court will be erected in the Hub area featuring Black Friday favorites, like hot dogs and a can of soda, bad coffee, Chick-Fil-A, slices of Sbarro pizza. and variations on turkey leftovers.

But the real gem of the event will be character meet and greets exclusive to the party. Rare characters making an appearance include Johnnie Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet from the “Make Mine Music” Disney short anthology, Dodger and Sykes from “Oliver and Company” , Scrooge McDuck and Flintheart Globgold from Duck Tales, and a very special first time ever appearance by “Store Manager” Mickey.

Now, if you are lucky enough to score tickets to this event you want to be there when the gate opens at 6 AM because in the true spirit of the holiday the meet and greets, the food and the special discounts will all be gone by 6:05.
ERIN:

A new store recently opened at the Disney Springs Marketplace in the Walt Disney World Resort featuring “fine quality goods for the discerning gentleman”.

Known as Twenty Eight & Main, the store features Disney apparel and accessories targeted to men. This include things ranging from polos and t-shirts, uh…I mean…athletic and casual wear, to scarves, hats, ties, and even briefcases.

But the signature piece to the Twenty Eight and Main collection is the highly coveted, Mickey shaped, man bun.

For the last several years Disney fans have enjoyed the aesthetics and convenience of the Magic band. These designer ID bracelets allow you to enter the parks, get fast passes, check in for fast passes, open your hotel room door and even purchase food and souvenirs.

But it’s not all sunshine and Dole Whips. Traditional magic bands can be cumbersome, make your wrist all sweaty, and even break! Not to mention, take them off and they’re easy to lose! There has got to be a better way!

But What? Tattooing a barcode to your wrist seems a little unappealing, And planting an RFID chip in the hand seems a wee bit invasive. Well, now there is a better way.

Introducing the Derma Magic Band, a new technological advance from the dreamers and doers at ??? Labs.

Derma magic band is a unique, electromagnetic sensitive ink that you can apply directly onto your skin. It stores information just like a real magic band and can be used at all the same touch points.

Since the information is stored electromagnetically you can print it in any design! You could choose Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Pluto or any of 147 Disney licensed characters. Or choose from famous Park icons or attractions or resorts or movies or, well, anything. The possibilities are limitless!

Best of all, you don’t even have to put it on your wrist! You could put it on discrete locations like the ankle or underarm. Or show your Disney pride in conspicuous locations like the hand or the face. Heck. You could even put it on the backside….of your neck.

Derma Magic Band comes in every color imaginable, except purple, and is conveniently available wherever ink is slinged.

Try Derma Magic Band risk free for 30 days. If you’re not satisfied we will return your money and you can keep your Derma Magic Band as our gift to you.

So throw those old magic bands away, and get Derma Magic Band today!

Welcome back to ENN, the Ears News Network.

The holiday overlay to the Jungle Cruise, making it the Jingle Jungle Cruise has already taken place and guests are experiencing what has become yet another popular annual event. The holiday overlay appears in the Magic Kingdoms at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts.

Guests will notice holiday decorations, placed by the Skippers all throughout the rivers. The Skippers have even changed up their narrations to include some seasonal banter as well.

But the piece de resistance is found near the end of the ride as an appearance is made by Trader Santa who comes bearing gifts: two mistletoes for one of yours.
Come to think of it…that’s a lot cheaper price than he usually charges.

And on a similar track…….at the D23 Expo in Japan Disney released more details about the upcoming Na’vi River Journey, which is part of the new Pandora – The World of AVATAR section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

According to a press release from Disney:

“The adventure begins as guests set out in canoes and venture down a mysterious, sacred river hidden within the bioluminescent rainforest. The full beauty of Pandora reveals itself as the canoes pass by exotic glowing plants and amazing creatures. The journey culminates in an encounter with a Na’vi shaman, who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora and sends positive energy out into the forest through her music.”

Though the press release fails to mention it, the exit of the ride is rumored to contain a Na’vi salesman offering you two shrunken avatars for one of yours….

Wait! The same joke? Are you kidding me?

PARKER:

Apparently our writers were lazy this week. But look at it this way Erin, when it comes to the Na’vi River Journey, at least the guests won’t be in da Nile.

ERIN:

Really Parker?

PARKER:

Annnnddd…..finally.
